The process in which the advertising materials are delivered to the recipients through postal mail is known as Direct Mail. It is also known as Advertising Mail, Junk Mail or Admail. This form of mailing lost its importance with the rise of telecommunication industries and internet.  However marketers believe that any form of mail can undo and surpass the other one if the message, targeting and positioning are done correctly. Direct Mail has also lost importance due to the cheap messaging outlets available in the internet. It always misleads people that Direct Mail is tough job to be done and hence its popularity is decreasing, but the fact is it is very simple.

It should not be mistaken that Direct Mail has to be compulsory go through the postal service. In general any delivery process of a thing that is dropped down can be described as Direct Mail. Hence understanding the term also solves some problems by itself. If you want to publicize your organization or business then you can do so by sending bulk mail. It is the best method and also very effective as people read bulk mail more than the bulk e-mail which is always regarded as “span”. It shows best results when the bulk mail is properly targeted. It is also cheaper than other forms of advertising.

The most important task in Direct Mail is designing the content that is personalized and well relevant. You need a content that grabs the viewer’s eyes and appeals viewer the most. It should also highlight your content which you want to publicize. The content must have various aspects that grabs the attention of the viewer and must be very appealing. Finally you should present an irresistible offer for the viewer that compels the viewer to respond.  If this main task is done properly your Direct Mail has achieved half the success.

You should make your offer look tempting to the prospect if you want your business to prosper. Many customers are interested in your product but only a few buy them as others don’t want themselves to expose themselves to the sales matter. These persons want to know about your product more and more but at the same time also want to be unnamed. Hence for these clients you must arrange a free consultation, though it is a time consuming process and it has also be seen that nothing solid comes out of it in most of the cases but when it does you can move your client through the sales cycle.

The final step is to obtain the clients list from a reputed source with recent data. You should personally check all the clients name one by one and select an appropriate buyer. Though it is a very time consuming but will certainly increase your chance of finding a suitable client who is interested in your product. Direct Mail can never be out of fashion as people keep on inventing new forms of publicity by cheap means for ex: self-mailing brochures, promotional post cards, etc.
